What You Need To Know About Knee Pain

Knee Pain Will Change The Way You Do Everything

The most common causes of non-traumatic knee pain will greatly improve and/or resolve with proper treatment.

Knee pain is one of the most common conditions we see at Life Quest, affecting athletes, active adults, and even those simply trying to stay mobile and independent. The key to lasting relief isn’t just treating symptoms—it’s identifying the underlying cause of dysfunction. Through our detailed functional evaluation, we assess movement patterns, joint mechanics, and soft tissue integrity to pinpoint the true driver of your knee pain. From there, we build a personalized treatment plan that may include chiropractic care, rehabilitative exercise, shockwave therapy, and advanced recovery services to restore function and keep you moving at a high level.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner’s Knee)

What are the leading causes of PFPS?

This is one of the leading causes of anterior knee pain, especially in active individuals. This condition is typically caused by poor tracking of the patella due to muscle imbalances, hip weakness, or faulty movement patterns during activities like squatting, running, or stair climbing. Patients often report a dull, aching pain around or behind the kneecap that worsens with prolonged sitting or repetitive movement. At Life Quest, we address PFPS by correcting biomechanics through targeted rehab exercises, improving hip and quad strength, and restoring proper joint motion with chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue therapy.

Chronic MCL Strain

Pain focused on the inside of the knee

This pain pattern involves ongoing irritation or microtearing of the medial collateral ligament, often due to repetitive stress, poor knee stability, or unresolved previous injury. This presents as pain along the inside of the knee, especially with cutting, pivoting, or lateral movement. Without proper treatment, it can lead to long-term instability and compensation patterns. Our approach focuses on restoring medial knee stability through progressive strengthening, improving neuromuscular control, and utilizing therapies like shockwave to accelerate tissue healing and reduce chronic inflammation. Patients often find benefit in adding L-Lysine amino acid injections to their treatment plan to provide foundational nutrition for ligament repair.

Tibial Torsion

Pain on the lower front aspect of the knee, especially when weight bearing

This is a structural and functional issue where the tibia (shin bone) is abnormally rotated, placing abnormal stress on the knee joint during walking, running, and squatting. This altered alignment can lead to inefficient movement patterns, increased wear and tear, and persistent knee pain over time. Many patients are unaware this is contributing to their symptoms. At Life Quest, we identify tibial torsion through functional assessment and address it with chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercise strategies, gait retraining, and mobility work designed to optimize lower extremity alignment and reduce joint stress.

In some cases, tibial torsion is the result of fallen arches, which can be easilty resolved with custom orthotics that are worn in the shoes to prevent the tibia from further twisting.

Fibular Head Dysfunction

Pain localized to the outside of the knee

This condition is an often-overlooked, even ignored, cause of lateral knee pain and instability. The fibular head plays a critical role in knee and ankle mechanics, and when it becomes restricted or misaligned, it can affect surrounding ligaments, including the LCL, and alter normal joint function. Patients may experience pain on the outside of the knee, tightness, or even referred discomfort down the leg. Our providers use precise chiropractic adjustments to restore proper positioning of the fibular head, combined with shockwave therapy and movement-based rehab to normalize function and eliminate compensatory patterns.

Patellar Tendinitis (Jumper’s Knee)

Knee pain when kneeling down? This could be it

This is a common overuse injury seen in athletes and active individuals who perform repetitive jumping, running, or loading activities. It involves degeneration and inflammation of the patellar tendon, leading to localized pain just below the kneecap. Left untreated, it can become a chronic and limiting condition. At Life Quest, we take an aggressive and effective approach by combining shockwave therapy to stimulate tissue healing, progressive tendon loading exercises to rebuild strength, structural balancing chiropractic adjustments to the pelvis and movement correction strategies to reduce excessive strain on the tendon.

Our Treatment Protocol

While every case is different, so is our treatment

On your first visit we will begin with a deep dive into your history with the knee pain. Then:

  • A detailed exam checking all the ligaments, tendons, muscles and meniscus
  • A Functional Movement Evaluation to see how the knee effects other aspects of your body
  • Treatment can include: chiropractic adjustment of the knee for optimal alignment, therapy modalities for pain relief, Shockwave for regenerative therapy on soft tissues and rehab exercises to restore movement and strength.

The end result is a better, stronger, more functional knee that allows you to get back to living!
