What Is Chiropractic Care All About?
Chiropractors are trained health care professionals with unique training to manage many common health conditions.
Chiropractors utilize treatments, including joint manipulation, physical therapy modalities, patient education, manual therapy, nutrition, and rehabilitation exercises, to address each patient's unique situation.
As chronic pain continues to rise within the US healthcare system, chiropractors utilize proven methods to reduce pain and disability without the need for medications and surgery in most cases.
What Do Chiropractors Do?
We believe in pursuing optimal health and a high performance life through optimizing neurowellness.
Most people think chiropractors crack backs. The truth is bigger than that. A chiropractor is a movement and function specialist — a doctor trained to find the root cause of why your body isn't working the way it was designed to, and to restore that function without drugs or surgery.
Here's the thing: your body was built to move, function, and perform on its own. You came pre-programmed for health and performance. But stress, injuries, repetitive movements, and years of bad patterns force the body to compensate. Muscles overwork, other joints pick up the slack, and imbalance spreads quietly through the system — until eventually, the body starts to malfunction.
That's where we come in. Chiropractors find and correct these imbalances, which sit at the root of a long list of conditions and symptoms — especially pain. And our primary focus is restoring balance to the nervous system, because it's the master control system of the body. It runs, regulates, and coordinates everything, and it's central to how well you adapt to stress.
When spinal joints become fixed or restricted, the nervous system pays the price. You feel that dysregulation as tension, fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep, frequent illness, and pain. Chiropractic adjustments restore motion to those joints, take stress off the nervous system, and let the body return to its normal state: health.
Alongside adjustments, we offer treatments that speed recovery — reducing spasm and inflammation while restoring motion and strength.
What makes chiropractic care different from other treatment methods?
Chiropractic care attempts to treat the source and not just the symptoms.
Traditional medical care asks a very useful question: "What's your symptom, and what will make it stop?" For infection, trauma, and disease, that model saves lives — and we're grateful for it. But for how your body moves, functions, and performs, it has a blind spot. A prescription can quiet pain without ever asking why the pain showed up. And when the medication wears off, the cause is still there, waiting.
Chiropractic starts from a different premise: your body came pre-programmed for health and performance. It doesn't need to be forced into working — it needs the interference removed so it can do what it was designed to do. So instead of chasing symptoms, we hunt for the root cause: the fixated joints, muscular imbalances, and damaged tissue that force your body to compensate. And because the nervous system is the master control system — running, regulating, and coordinating everything — restoring balance there doesn't just ease pain. Patients notice better sleep, less tension, more energy, and a body that adapts to stress the way it should.
That's why care at Life Quest never begins with treatment. It begins with the Functional Examination — because to not know is to guess, and we don't guess with your health.
Here's the part we're proud of: at Life Quest, you don't have to choose. As an integrated wellness and performance clinic, we bring chiropractic, rehab, and medical wellness together under one roof — each doing what it does best. Different tools, one goal: a body that works the way it was built to.
What does a typical new patient appointment look like for a new patient?
No mystery, no all-day commitment — your first appointment takes about 30 minutes, and every minute has a purpose.
We start with a detailed history. Your story matters: old injuries, daily demands, what makes things better or worse. Most of the answers are hiding in there, and we take the time to find them.
Next comes the Functional Examination — our 12-point movement evaluation of the major joints of your body. You won't just hear about what's dysfunctional; you'll see it and feel it for yourself.
Then we complete neurologic testing, because the nervous system runs and regulates everything. It tells us how well your body is communicating, adapting, and functioning.
By the end, we have a better understanding of what's wrong, why it's happening, and how to help — no guesswork. We'll explain everything in plain English, answer your questions, and then get to work: most patients begin care that same day.
What Does A Chiropractor Treat?
A chiropractor can help with aches, pains, creaks, and sprains. If you have an issue with your musculoskeletal system, a chiropractor can provide you with non-drug therapy options.
Treatment that a chiropractor may offer includes:
- Adjustments: To reduce discomfort and increase range of motion by gently realigning joints.
- Soft-tissue therapy: To reduce muscle spasms and tension in the connective tissue that surrounds each muscle (fascia).
- Exercises and stretches: To restore and maintain joint stability and mobility.
- Joint bracing/taping (Kinesio taping): To support sprained joints or muscles as they heal.
- Referrals to medical specialists: Should your condition require advanced imaging, like MRI, or consultation with another specialist, we are well-connected in the medical community to insure a timely referral when necessary.
Chiropractic care for back pain.
Most people associate chiropractors with low back pain (LBP)- and rightly so.
LBP plagues our society as one of the most common causes of disability and healthcare expenditures. Joint dysfunction in the lower back is a primary risk factor for the development & progression of low back degeneration. (1)
Fortunately, chiropractors provide researched backed treatment of these joints through spinal manipulation, exercise, and specific patient education. Most patients have reduced pain within their first visit.
Chiropractic Care For Nagging Neck Pain
Neck pain is the second most common reason patients visit a chiropractor.
Changes to daily habits, postural stresses, and workstation ergonomics are among the most common activities resulting in a stiff or painful neck.
If neck stiffness is left untreated, a person may experience restricted joints and less range of motion. Spinal manipulation, delivered by chiropractors, has unrivaled success and safety for these types of neck pain.
Manipulation, in conjunction with exercise and postural reeducation, often alleviates symptoms quickly.
Chiropractic care for chronic pain.
A chiropractor will spend time with you to understand your unique pain presentation.
They will ask questions, perform a physical exam, and possibly order imaging to understand your condition entirely. Your pain is multi-dimensional, affecting many areas of your life—and so should your treatment plan.
A chiropractor can carefully craft a care plan to attack all of the postures, activities, hobbies, and stresses that may be resulting in your chronic pain.
Chiropractic care for headaches.
Headaches affect almost half of the population. 15-25% of all headaches originate from the cervical spine.
Successful managing headache patients requires a multifaceted approach with spinal manipulation as a cornerstone of treatment. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of spinal manipulation for these types of headaches.
A recent study in The Spine Journal found that spinal manipulation cuts the number of symptomatic headache days in half, and the number of treatments has a linear dose-response to improvement.
Chiropractors can quickly identify the type of headache and the most appropriate treatment strategy.
Chiropractic care can aid you in avoiding long-term opioid dependence.
Opioid prescriptions typically have one common cause—acute pain.
However, most acute pain is due to musculoskeletal damage, sometimes referred to as mechanical neck and back pain. Mechanical pain does not typically respond well to a chemical solution (opioids).
This ineffective treatment leads to diminished outcomes and chronic use. Opioid dependence, tolerance, and addiction often commence following an acute problem such as dental procedure, surgery, or injury. More than 25% of chronic use follows post-operative or injury-related pain.
Here is how chiropractors are helping with the opioid epidemic:
- Chiropractors specialize in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders: their primary responsibility to the patient is to fully diagnose them—not treat them.
- Chiropractors' unique training allows them to find what is causing the pain and work towards finding a solution—not just covering it up.
- Chiropractors select the right treatment, for the right patient, at the right time to resolve problems quickly.
- As a profession, chiropractors are an integrated part of the solution to the opioid epidemic.
