Hello there! I’m Julie Dornbusch a person of versatility and passion, brimming with experiences in healthcare and beyond. Whether I’m donning my scrubs or a Scout leader uniform, I bring energy, dedication, and a whole lot of heart to everything I do. I have over 25 years of experience in healthcare, education, and community service.

Healthcare has My Heart

I started my professional journey climbing the ladder from working in medical records, next as a nursing assistant, registered nurse, then nurse practitioner. I started at St. Cloud Hospital in surgical and critical care as a nurse. I moved on to CentraCare Heart & Vascular as a Nurse Practitioner, mastering atrial fibrillation management and other heart rhythm issues. (Or “funny extra beats” as an easier way to describe it.) Next, I moved into caring for people with kidney disease. I have taken care of a wide range of conditions from routine health maintenance check-ups to life threatening illnesses. I specialize in taking care of people ages 12 and up. I believe in working as a team with patients. My goal is to provide information with experience to develop a plan that is going to help get the best results patients want to achieve. It’s teamwork.

Educator Extraordinaire

At the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University in St. Joseph, Minnesota, I get to shape the future of nurses as an instructor. I teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. I lead unique projects like Death Cafés, mentoring students, and pushing the boundaries of simulation education. My current project is working on a Morgan Family Foundation funded grant simulation focused on healthcare directives. The students get the best of both my knowledge with experience and passion.

Community Champion

I believe strongly in giving back to the community. I have been volunteering since I was a child. When not in the hospital or classroom, I’m out beautifying the community with the Douglas County Barn Quilt Trail project or providing vital support at Bri’s Lodge for those dealing with grief. I’m also the President of the Keller Family Community Foundation, leading fundraising and grant initiatives for people with cancer and their families raising $1 million dollars over the past 10 years.

Scout Leader, Supermom, Animal Lover

A supermom to four kids and a doting grandma. I am a Lifetime Girl Scout Member and a troop leader, guiding my 2 daughters and other young scouts through badge activities and cookie sales. Yummy! I was a part of Cub Scouts with my 2 sons when they were younger. We love scout popcorn. Plus, our household includes three cats, a mini-Rex rabbit, and a dog—all adopted! We get lots of pet cuddles.

Lake Life and Fun

Having fun is what I love to do! I stay active with walking, swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, biking, and boating. We do a salsa garden every year. I enjoy NFL football and often join my husband in fantasy leagues.  And if you’re ever in need of a sweet treat, my family and friends adore the cookies and banana bread I bake. Crafting, painting, and crocheting are go-to relaxation activities. We moved to the Alexandria area 2 years ago to enjoy lake life, a nod to our camping adventures. With a house full of pets and plenty of outdoor activities, life is never dull for our family.

Wrap-Up

Get to know me and you’ll find a person with a big heart who works hard and has fun. I have a whirlwind of positive energy and dedication. Whether it’s changing lives, mentoring future nurses, or leading community projects, I do it all with a smile and generosity. I want to inspire and make a significant impact.
